The role:

Designs learning solutions that fully engage and motivate the learner and demonstrate an awareness of the learner’s unique workflows and culture.  This person has a passion for learning and visual design, with the ability to influence key stakeholders, subject matter experts and project teams to see the value of “on-the-job” or just-in-time education.  The Instructional Designer works individually and in groups to deliver high quality, professional, eLearning, video and print-based content. This person should be highly self-directed and able to take the leadership role when it is needed.

What the job is:

Project Planning and Analysis

  • Work with stakeholders to complete statements of work that document training needs, performance gaps, and propose the best learning solutions.
  • Develop project plans to describe the production work effort, schedule, and required resources for all project design and production activities.

Instructional Asset Development

  • Ensure that learning solutions incorporate best practices in adult learning theory.
  • Use consultative and questioning skills daily to collaborate with project leads and subject matter experts to advocate for and create the most technically relevant content to communicate a clear, concise, and effective message.
  • Take complex information from Product Managers and Development Teams on company products and services and turn it into easy to understand material by tenaciously seeking out answers to difficult questions.
  • Apply strong technical writing and oral communication skills to develop content and instruction for modules and materials.
  • Identify learning related issues and advocate for effective learning interventions. 
  • Design various types of learning materials including facilitator and participant materials, self-study guides, job aids, as well as assessments, surveys, tests, games, and activities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to update and maintain existing materials.
  • Promote and manage knowledge sharing through the organization's tools and systems.
  • Perform reviews of completed deliverables for compliance with standards and consistency of design.
  • Facilitate or moderate courses using web-based communication tools or in-person, when necessary.
  • Design, develop and revise agile video content for on-demand consumption by clients and employees.
  • Write and produce high quality scripting for video content. 

Learning Management System

  • Maintain accurate student records in the Learning Management System.
  • Create standards and best practices for day to day operations.
  • Troubleshoot issues with vendors to ensure quality experience for the learner.
  • Package and upload training content.
  • Manage permissions to ensure content is seen by the right learner.

Training Event Planning

  • Create, organize and distribute material for employee training events through email or in-person.
  • Coordinate travel for participants and presenters.
  • Assist in day-of-event logistics which can include but are not limited to room set up, lunch ordering, equipment maintenance, scheduling and supply distribution.

What a qualified candidate should possess:

  • Candidates must have demonstrated knowledge and application in one or more of the following areas: learning, knowledge management, training, and instructional design and development.
  • Minimum of 2 years recent experience in the development of training programs and course materials.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Expert level use of Microsoft products.
  • Project Management experience, flexibility and adaptability to meet multiple priorities, critical deadlines and shifting training needs. Ability to work well with others to build and maintain effective internal/external relationships.
  • Visual design skills using Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Experience in production and editing of instructional video and audio content using Camtasia, Premier, Audacity or similar programs.
  • Current working knowledge in Articulate Storyline 2.0 development, or demonstrated aptitude using similar products.
  • Experience with a leading LMS (Learning Management System).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design/Technology, Education, Communications, English, or related field required.  Master’s degree preferred.
