The role:

Please join our database team and be part of core players to support the world’s largest ticketing system. We are on a journey to build set of new generation database tools, manage and operate various databases, on AWS and OnPrem, in an “infrastructure as code” mode, migrate databases from our On-Prem private cloud to AWS. We use various database technologies from RDBMS to NoSQL. We support multi-platform databases - running on both private and public cloud infrastructure - powering the world’s largest ticketing system with 170M customers. What the job is:

  • Manage a team of database engineers to build and maintain database platforms, starting from dev/qa to integration to production. 

  • Provide technical support to both OnPrem and Cloud database environments.
  • Manage the existing 24*7 OnCall and Firechief procedures. 

  • Define, build and manage internal team’s change management, incident management 
procedures and retro follow-ups. 

  • Define and build the benchmark for critical services, build and implement a process/procedure 
to proactively monitor the health of production systems and identify issues before they become 
business disruptive events. 

  • Implement monitoring, dashboards/tools/metrics/reports to track database service 

  • Govern and maintain database security, backup/recovery, and performance. 

  • Facilitate existing daily standup meetings and bi-weekly grooming incoming operational tasks. 

  • Maintaining and optimizing existing database operational runbooks. 

  • Manage existing database hardware and software inventory and compliance level. 

What a qualified candidate should possess:

  • 5+ years of management experience in a 24/7/365 in a mission critical multi-site database environment is required. 

  • 7+ years experience on at least 2 types of relational databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Teradata/MS SQL server. 

  • 3+ years experience on administering and managing multiple NoSQL databases: Cassandra, DynamoDB or MongoDB. 

  • Strong experience to effectively lead, motivate and manage the resources, including constructive performance feedback.
  • Experience in leading complicated projects, working with cross-functional teams and driving projects to successful completion. 

  • Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Strong analytical skills, process oriented, proven problem solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (shell, Python, Perl). 

  • Awareness of emerging technologies and trending in database areas.

  • Hardware knowledge with good understanding of memory, CPU, Filer, SAN, RAID, I/O, SSD, and 
other capacity related components. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience on Cassandra, Kafka, and DynamoDB and Dynamodb streams.
  • Familiarity with at least one compiled language (GO or Java). 

  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (Aurora, RDS, DynamoDB, DMS, Lambda, EC2, EBS, S3, IAM etc.) 

  • Systems engineering experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, 
configuration, security, networking and troubleshooting. 

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields
